The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Subhash Chandra Garg as the Finance Secretary.

He is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, has been working as the Secretary in Department of Economic Affairs since June 2017.

He has succeeded Ajay Narayan Jha, the former Finance Secretary who retired on February 28, 2019.

 Ajay Narayan Jha has taken over as a member of the 15th Finance Commission.

Marayoor jaggery, the traditional and handmade product from Idukki district of Kerala gets the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Central Government.

The Jaggery is one of the sweetest jaggeries produced in Idukki. It is made from sugarcane and no chemicals are added during the manufacturing process. It is dark brown in colour, high in sweetness and iron, with less sodium content and insoluble impurities.

Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Safety in Mines, Testing and Research Station (SIMTARS), Australia for cooperation in occupational safety.

The MoU was signed between Shri Utpal Singh on behalf of Ministry of Labour and Employment and Shri Gitesh Agrawal on behalf of SIMTARS, Australia.

MoU was aimed at exploring new opportunities in the area of occupational safety, health and welfare of persons engaged in mining operations.

The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $26 Million Loan Agreement to provide additional financing for improving drainage infrastructure in Dibrugarh town of Assam under the ongoing Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program.

The agreement signed in New Delhi.
