India celebrates Sarojini Naidu's birthday as National Women's Day of India every year on February 13. Sarojini Naidu was India's first women governor and also famous as 'Bharat Kokila '. Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879. She actively participated in the Indian National Movement for the independence of the country.

Cabinet approves Pesticide Management Bill 2020

A bill to regulate business of pesticides and compensate farmers in case of losses from usage of spurious agro-chemicals will be introduced in the ongoing session of parliament, the government said on Wednesday. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday had approved Pesticides Management Bill, 2020.

India's Gandikota Sarva Laxmi set to become 1st women match referee at global event

Gandikota Sarva Laxmi, a former Andhra Pradesh cricketer, became the 1st women referee fir the men's international cricket match in December 2019. Beside, she will be the first women's match referee in the world's International Cricket Council (ICC). In addition, on 21 February this year, GS Laxmi will be the referee for the women's T20 World Cup beginning in Australia. GS Laxmi was born on 23 May 1968 in the Rajahmundry. Laxmi began her career by playing to different states in the domestic matches.

Ayushman Bharat: School Health Ambassador Initiative Launched

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced School Health Ambassador Initiative. Under the initiative, two teachers in every school are to be made as Health and Wellness ambassador. The initiative is to be linked with other initiatives such as Eat Right Campaign, Fit India Movement and Poshan Abhiyan. 11 themes have been identified it includes growing up healthy, interpersonal relationships, emotional well-being, values and responsible citizenship, nutrition, health, gender-equal promotion of healthy lifestyle, HIV prevention, safety and security against violence and promotion of safe use of internet. The 2 ambassadors appointed under the scheme will work on the above themes.They will focus on health promotion and prevention components.

India Action Plan 2020 Summit is being held in Delhi

India Action plan 2020 summit was held on 12 February in Delhi. The summit was organized by TV Channel Times Now, India's premium broadcast network. The keynote was delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The aim of the Times Now Summit is to accelerate the 'New India' vision by taking a holistic approach in defining a constructive action plan for India. The two-day summit will have more than 25 sessions including topics such as social and economic progress, welfare, education, urban-rural divide, defense, sports, highlight need- gaps, identify solutions and set up the action plan for next year.

Supreme Court orders political parties to publish criminal records of their candidates

The Supreme Court has ordered all political parties to state the reason for giving election tickets to criminal record holders. Supreme Court ordered on February 13, 2020, that political parties have to upload details of criminal cases against candidates on their websites. Supreme Court said that it is flagging an 'alarming rise in the criminalization of politics' in four previous national-level elections. As per the Supreme Court's order, political parties have to upload all the details within 48 hours.

National Winter Games to be held in Gulmarg

The national Winter Games is to be held in Gulmarg from march 7, 2020. The games are to be held for five days in Gulmarg, the world-famous Ski Destination. It is being held under Khelo India. The Department of Tourism is to create wide publicity about the event through roadshows. Around 30 events are to be held at the national winter games under four disciplines. Khelo India was first held in 2018. The main aim of Khelo India event is to hunt grassroots level talent all over India.
