• Researchers at IIT Kharagpur have developed a smartphone application to detect fake currency.

• The code for a smartphone to detect fake currency has been developed by a group of six students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.

• The app works as follows:

• A user can upload the image of the currency note.
• The mobile app would then perform verification of its authenticity with the help of 25 features that have been extracted from both the sides of the note.
• If a fake note is detected, a notification will be sent to the user.

• The Chameli Devi Jain Award 2018 for an outstanding women journalist has been given to Priyanka Dubey, who works as a bilingual correspondent with the BBC at its Delhi bureau.

• She was chosen for her multi-faceted, interrogative and investigative reports. She helped to uncover the reality underlying in social and political issues.

• She was a freedom fighter. This award is the countries longest running media award for women.

• Chameli Devi Jain Award has been awarded to women journalist for the past 37 years.

• China launched a new communication satellite into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (CASC) in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

• The "ChinaSat 6C" satellite was launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket, which completed its 300th launch mission.

• The Long March carrier rocket series, enhanced by CASC, constitutes more than 95% of all the launch missions in China.

• The launched satellite will provide high-quality radio and TV transmission services.

• The satellite will perform its duty at the geostationary orbit, and it will contain the islands in China, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

• India is the second largest importer of weapons in the world as per the annual report 'Trends in International Arms Transfers-2018' released by the think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

• After maintaining its position of world's largest arms importer for about 8 years, India dropped down to be the 2nd largest importer of weapons during 2014-18.

• The agreement will provide a liberal visa policy for Maldivian citizens seeking medical treatment as well as education and business opportunities in India.

• The agreement has come into effect after all formalities including information being provided to all immigration offices, border points and customs authorities have been completed.
