Egypt to host African Cup of Nations

 

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad announced in Dakar that Egypt will host the 2019 African Cup Nations.

• Egypt beat South Africa.

• It will be the fifth time Egyp, which won the tournament when it last hosted in 2006.

• Egypt will use eight stadiums during the tournament, hosting in five different cities: Alexandria, Ismailia, Port Said, Suez and the capital Cairo.

 

Mohamed Salah named African Footballer of the Year

 

• Mohamed Salah names as the 2018 Confederation of African Football Player of the Year.

• The 26-year-old Salah beat Medhi Benatia Kalidou Koulibaly, Sadio Mane and Thomas Partey to the prize.

• For the second consecutive year, he has won the award.

• He becomes the first player since Nigerian Jay-Jay Okocha to win African Footballer of the Year in consecutive years.

• He was named the Premier League's Player of the Season in 2017/18, and has so far scored 13 times in 23 games of the current campaign.

 

National Youth Day celebrated on 12 January

 

• National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January of every year since 1984.

• National Youth Day 2019 is the 156th birth anniversary of great philosopher Swami Vivekananda.

• It celebrated every year to create awareness amongst the people, youths about the importance of Rights in India.
 
• National Youth Day is also known as Yuva Diwas.
 
 
 
Ashok Chawla resigned as chairman of the NSE

 

• Ashok Chawla resigned as chairman of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd.

• He has been appointed as the Chairman of National Stock Exchange since 2017.

• He has also served as a Secretary in Ministry of Finance, Government of India and as the Chairman of the Competition Commission of India.

 

The 11th edition of EIU Democracy Index 2018: Norway tops, India ranks 41st

 

• The Economist Intelligent Unit has released the 11th edition of the EIU Democracy Index 2018 which ranks 167 countries.

• According to the report ranking, Norway has topped while Iceland Sweden and New Zealand were ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.

• India has ranked at 41st place.

• Pakistan has ranked at 112th position.

• The Index was started in 2006.

• No country from Asia and African continent are in the top 10 lists of annual democracy Index.
