HDFC Bank becomes 3rd Indian Firm to cross Rs6 trillion Market Cap

 

HDFC Bank Ltd crossed the Rs6 trillion market capitalization for the first time, making it only the 3rd Indian firm to achieve this milestone.

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) and Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) are the other two companies to achieve the milestone.

RIL is the most valued company in India with a market capitalization of Rs8.50 trillion, followed by TCS at Rs7.48 trillion.

Axis Bank appoints Rakesh Makhija as new Chairman

 

Private sector lender Axis Bank has appointed Rakesh Makhija as Non-Executive Part-time Chairman for a period of 3 years.

Makhija, who is the Chairman of SKF India, will take over from current Axis Bank Chairman Sanjiv Mishra, when his term comes to an end on July 17.

Makhija, 67 is also a Director on the board of Tata Tech, Tata Marcopolo Motors and ATREDS, and has been an independent Director on the board of Axis since October 2015.

Upamanyu Dutta clinched Bronze medal in the Asian Open Laser Sailing Championship

 

Young Mumbai sailor Upamanyu Dutta won the bronze medal, which is India's 1st ever medal in the single-handed Laser Standard race for men in the Laser Asian Sailing Championship which concluded in Singapore.

Upamanyu is currently training in Europe under coach Trevor Millar and has recently won the Euromed Championship in Malta.

Nethra Kumanan of Chennai achieved the 4th position in the Laser Radial event for women.

 

PM Modi and Sheik Hasina unveiled e-plaques

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, unveiled e-plaques for development projects in Bangladesh through video conferencing.

Both leaders launched the e-plaques for supply of buses and truck, inauguration of 36 community clinics, 11 water treatment plants and extension of National Knowledge Network to Bangladesh.

This was the sixth such video conference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

MR Kumar appointed as Chairman of LIC

 

The government has appointed MR Kumar as the Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for a period of 5 years.

He was the Zonal Manager (In-charge) of North Zone, Delhi prior to this appointment.

Vipin Anand and TC Suseel Kumar were also appointed as the managing directors (MDs) of LIC for a period of 5 years.

LIC's executive board comprises of 1 chairman and 4 managing directors.

SC appoints PS Narasimha as Mediator to resolve Disputes within BCCI

 

The Supreme Court appointed senior advocate P.S. Narasimha as a mediator for resolving various disputes related to cricket administration within the cricket body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Narasimha is assisting the apex court as amicus curiae in the BCCI matter.

India ranks 16th in terms of Highest Number of Impacted Species in Hotspots

 

India was ranked 16th in the world in terms of highest number of impacted species in biodiversity-rich zones (also known as hotspots) due to human actions.

India ranks 16th such human impacts, with 35 species impacted on average.

Malaysia ranks first among countries with the highest number of impacted species (on an average 125 species).

US- India Strategic Security Dialogue held in Washington

 

The 9th round of the India-US Strategic Security Dialogue was held in Washington DC.

Both sides reaffirmed to deny Weapons of Mass Destruction to non-state actors and work towards setting up US nuclear plant in India agreement.

The sides committed to strengthening bilateral security and civil nuclear cooperation, including the establishment of 6 U.S. nuclear reactors in India.
