Resilient Cities Asia-Pacific 2019 Congress held in New Delhi 

 

The Resilient Cities Asia-Pacific (RCAP) 2019 Congress was organized by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and hosted by South Delhi Municipal Corporation in New Delhi, India.

It offers a lot of innovative solutions that build resilience to climate change at the sub-national level.

The themes of RCAP 2019 are:

  • Integrated climate resilience planning to manage risks and vulnerabilities
  • Good governance and resilience
  • Nature-based solutions to adaptation
  • Climate knowledge brokering
  • Opportunities for regional networking and collaboration
  • Sustainable infrastructure development and green growth
  • Urban nexus
  • Financing mechanisms for Asian cities

RCAP was launched in 2010. Resilient Cities is the annual global platform for urban resilience and climate change adaptation where dialogues are conducted to forge partnerships, with the ultimate goal of identifying implementable solutions and creating lasting impacts for cities in the region.

 

Saudi Arabia to host G20 Summit in 2020

 

Saudi Arabia will host G20 summit in November 2020 in its capital Riyadh.

This will be the first G20 summit in the Arab country and the 15th meeting of the G20.

The G20 meeting 2018 was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has represented the kingdom.

The G20 summit 2019 will be held in Osaka, Japan on June 28-29.

For the very 1st time, the G20 summit was held in 2008 in Washington, D.C. with the prime objective of reviving the world economy from the worst financial crisis in more than 70 years.

The G20 summit is formally known as the 'Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy'.

The G20 consists of Germany, the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, China, Indonesia, France, South Africa, South Korea, India, the U.K., Italy, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the European Union.

Nepal launched its 1st Satellite from USA

 

Nepal has successfully launched its first satellite NepaliSat-1 into space from Virginia in the United States.

The satellite developed by the Nepalese scientists namely Aabhas Maskey and Hariram Shrestha who are currently studying at Japanese Kyushu Institute of Technology developed the satellite under the BIRDS project of their institute.

NepaliSat-1 is a low orbit satellite which will be in the 400-km from the Earth's surface.

NASA Astronaut Christina Koch to set a record for Longest spaceflight by a woman

 

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced that Christina Koch is all set to create a record for the longest spaceflight by a woman.

Christina arrived at the International Space Station on March 14 and according to NASA, will remain in orbit until February 2020, making it the longest time in space by a woman astronaut.

Once she completes it, she will break the record of 288 days set by former astronaut Peggy Whitson in 2016-2017.

World Heritage Day: 18th April

 

World Heritage Day, which is also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated annually on 18th April with an aim to emphasize the importance of safeguarding various sites around the world that have achieved world heritage status.

The theme of the World Heritage Day 2019 is "Rural Landscapes".

In 1982, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) established 18th April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites and approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.
