ADB cuts India's GDP growth rate forecast to 7% for FY20

 

The Asian Development Bank lowered India's GDP growth rate forecast for 2019-20 to 7% from 7.2%.

India is expected to grow by 7% in 2019 and 7.2% in 2020.

Christine Lagarde resigns as MD of IMF

 

The 63-year-old Christine Lagarde has resigned from Managing Director (MD) post of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Her resignation has been accepted by IMF Executive Board with effect from September 12, 2019.

She has been nominated by the European Council as new President of European Central Bank (ECB) where she will succeed Mario Draghi.

She was the head of IMF since 2011.

David Lipton remains the IMF acting managing director in the interim period.

ICICI Bank launches digital platform 'InstaBIZ for MSMEs

 

ICICI Bank launched a new digital platform called 'InstaBIZ' for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and self-employed customers, enable them to undertake their business banking transactions digitally and instantly.

The platform offers over 115 products and services online through mobile and internet banking platform.

InstaBIZ is the first digital banking platform to enable instant payment of GST using the challan number in a single click payment. In adition, MSMEs can instantly apply for a Point-of-Sale (PoS) machine and marine policy.

Prakesh Javedekar inaugurated 10th Jagran Film Festival

 

The 10th edition of Jagran Film Festival was inaugurated in an event at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi.

It was inaugurated by Prakesh Javedekar Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

He highlighted the importance and impact of cinema on life of people and termed that it is a medium that connects people. He also highlighted the recent steps taken by the Centre to promote India as a filming destination.

 

ICC suspends Zimbabwe Cricket Board

 

International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Zimbabwe with immediate effect.

Zimbabwe was suspended after it breached the ICC Constitution by failing to provide free and democratic elections and ensuring that there is is no government interference in its cricket administration.

With this, Zimbabwe will be out of all ICC tournaments including upcoming T20 World Cup.

The decision was taken by the ICC board during the ICC Annual Conference in London.

Sarabjot Singh wins gold in ISSF Junior World Cup

 

In shooting, Sarabjot Singh won Inda's gold medal in ISSF Junior World Cup.

He shot a 239.6 to bag the men's 10 metres air pistol gold.

This is India's ninth yellow metal at the event in Suhl, Germany.

 

'Tata' became India's most valuable brands for 2019'

 

According to the Brand Finance India 100 2019 report, 'Tata' has become India's most valuable brand for the second straight year 2019 with the brand value of $19.6 billion.

The brand value of Tata increased to 37% with $19.6 billion as compared to $14.23 billion in 2018.

The second most valued brand this year was Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) at $7.3 billion and a close third was Infosys at $6.5 billion.

 

Sachin Tendulkar 6th Indian to be inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

 

Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar has been inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame alongside South African pace legend Allan Donald and two-times World Cup-winning Australian woman cricketer Cathryn Fitzpatrick.

Sachin Tendulkar became the sixth cricketer from India after Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and Bishan Singh Bedi to be inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame.

French businessman & CEO of LVMH ( a merger of renowned brands Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessy), Bernard Arnault has overtaken Bill Gates as the world's 2nd richest person in the world with a net worth of $108 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index 2019.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, is now the world's 3rd richest person with $107 billion.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon Inc's founder remains the richest person in the world with a net worth of $124 billion.

HRD Ministry released "Deeksharmbha"

 

Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, has released a (University Grants Commission) Guide to Student Induction Programme called "Deeksharambha" in New Delhi.

The Deeksharambha, a guide to Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment.

Their main aim is to develop an everlasting bonding between the teacher and student.

Union Health Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministries of Defence, Railways and Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) to eliminate TB from India by 2025.

 

BSE & Haryana govt sign pact to facilitate MSMEs raise capital

 

India's leading Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has signed a pact with Haryana government to encourage and support state's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to raise capital.

The tie-up will enable Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to raise funds through the platform "BSE SME", where small companies can list and raise productive capital, gain visibility and credibility vis-a-vis large corporates.

Author Rachna Bisht Rawat's book title "Kargil Untold stories from the War" released.

 

A new book titled "Kargil: Untold stories from the War" was released in New Delhi on the 20th anniversary of Kargil War.

It has been authored by Rachna Bisht Rawat.

It is published by Penguin Random House.

The book is based on the interview conducted by the author with war survivors and martyrs' families and is a tribute to their courage and to that of their families.

 

Internet Saathi programme to be expanded to Panjab and Odisha

 

Google India and Tata Trusts are set to expend their "Internet Saathi" digital literacy programme for rural women to villages Panjab and Odisha.

Currently, the programme has reached 2.6 lakh villages in 20 states.

In Panjab, the programme will cover around 5,000 villages. In Odisha, It will cover 16,000 villages.

Internet Saathi is a joint initiative of Google India and Tata Trusts. It aims to facilitate digital literacy among women in rural India.

Union Tourism Ministry's campaign "Find the Incredible you" has won the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award 2019 under the "Marketing - Primary Government Destination" category.

The 2019 edition of award attracted a total of 197 entries from 78 organizations individual worldwide.

PATA Gold Awards are given to tourism industry organization and individuals by the PATA for making an outstanding contribution towards the successful promotion of the travel industry throughout the Asia Pacific Region.
