K. Natarajan sworn in as the 23rd chief of ICG


K. Natarajan has been appointed as the Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

He has become the 23rd chief of India's coastal security force.

He replaced Rajendra Singh who was the first Director-General to be appointed from within the force.


One nation one ration card' scheme from July 1, 2020


Government of India 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme will be available across the country form 1 July 2020,

The scheme will allow portability of food security benefits, under which beneficiaries can by subsidize food grains from any ration shop in the country as long as their ration cards are linked to Aadhaar.

This scheme will ensure that no poor person is deprived of subsidized grains.

First resilient Kerala program


The GoI, the Government of Kerala and the Word Bank have signed the loan agreement of USD 250 million for the First Resilient Kerala Program.

The New Program is part of 'Rebuild Kerala Development Programme'.

It is aimed at enhancing the State's resilience against the impacts of natural disasters and climate change.

It will focus on strengthening the state's institutional and financial capacity to protect the assets and livelihoods of poor and vulnerable groups.

Money in Swiss Banks: India ranked 74


As per an analysis by the Swiss National Bank (SBN), India has ranked 74th position in terms of money parked by individuals and enterprises in Swiss banks.

In 2018, India was ranked 73rd, after jumping from its 88th rank a year ago.

The UK topped the list with over 26% of such funds. It is followed by US, West Indies, France, and Hong Kong.

Indian signs worth Rs.200 cr deal with Russia


The Government of India has signed a deal with Russia for buying anti-tank missiles for its Mi-35 attack helicopters to prepare itself for emergency situations.

The deal is worth around Rs 200 crore.

The deal has been signed by the Air Force under the emergency provisions in which the equipment has to be bought and ready for deployment in three months.

Max Verstappen wins Austrian Grand Prix


Red Bull's Max Verstappen (Belgium) won the Austrian Grand Prix for the second year in a row.

Mercedes Valtteri Bottas who met continuous wins finishes with third and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel become fourth. Five-times world champion, Mercedes Lewis Hamilton finished with fifth place.


Veer Chotrani won Asian U-19 champion in Squash


Veer Chotrani won a gold Under-19 title at the 26th Asian Junior Championship 2019 at Macau, Chian.

He beat another Indian seed Yash Fadte at final

With this victory, Veer became the third Indian to win the Asian trophy after Ravi Dixit and Vela Senthilkumar.

In the girls' U-15 category, India's Yuvna Gupta bagged a silver medal.


2nd anniversary of launch of GST celebrated as GST Day


India is celebrated 1st July as the Goods & Services Tax Day.

This year, it is the second anniversary of the implementation of historic tax reform of Goods & Services Tax.

The introduction of GST was a game changer for the Indian economy as it has replaced multi-layered, complex indirect tax structure with a simple, transparent and technology-driven tax regime.


International Day of Parliamentarism: 30 June


International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated every year on 30 June across the world.

The day is instituted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This day celebrates parliaments and the ways in which parliamentary systems of government improve the day to day lives of people across the world.

The day also marks the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the global organization of parliaments in 1889.


National Doctor's Day: 1 July


National Doctor's Day is observed every year on 1 July to raise awareness about the importance of doctors and the crucial role they play in our day to day lives.

It is observed to honour the legendary physician and second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

The theme of National Doctor's Day 2019 is "Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishment". It is meant to raise awareness about violence happening with doctors across India.

National Doctor's Day is first celebrated in July 1991.
