World No-Tobacco Day: 31st May

 

World No-Tobacco Day is observed globally every year on 31st May.

Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners, mark World No Tobacco Day to highlight the health and other risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2019 is on "tobacco and lung health".

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form.

 

Goa celebrated its statehood day: 30th May

 

Goa celebrated its statehood day on 30th May.

Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union on this day in 1987. Before this, Goa, along with Daman and Diu, was a union territory.

NSIC signs MoU with Ministry of MSME

 

The National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) signed an MoU with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for the year 2019-20.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Ravindra Nath, Chairman & Managing Director, NSIC and Dr. Hafsah, CEO, SME Corp. Malaysia.

The MoU envisages provision of enhanced services by NSIC under its marketing, financial, technology, and other support services schemes, for MSMEs in the country.

The corporation also plans to enhance its activities in the areas of imparting entrepreneurship and skill development training.

US removes India, Switzerland from its currency monitoring list

 

The US government has removed India from its monitoring list of major trading partners after certain developments and steps were taken by New Delhi addressing some of its major concerns.

Switzerland is the other nation that has been removed from the list. The list currently includes Japan, China, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam among other.

India moves up to 43rd in competitiveness; Singapore tops chart

 

India has moved up one place to rank 43rd in most competitive economy in the world on the back of its robust economic growth, a large labour force and Singapore has toppled the US to grab the top position, a global study showed.

Hong Kong SAR has secured 2nd position as same as last year

The Us ranked 3rd in the ranking.

Switzerland ranked 4th in the ranking.

UAE first time entered into the top 5 ranking. Last year in 2018 UAE ranked 7th.

Venezuela ranked last in the ranking due to high inflation, poor access to credit and a weak economy.

Global Day of Parents: 1st June

 

Global Day of Parent is observed on the 1st June every year to honor parents and therir commitment to children worldwide.

The theme for the 2019 Global Day of Parents is "Honor Your Parents".

Global Day of Parents was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2012 with resolution A/RES/66/292 and honour parents throughout the world.

Narendra Damodardas Modi took oath as the Prime Minister of India for a second consecutive term at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, on 30th May 2019. Modi was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of India by President Ram Nath Kovind.
