Tamil Nadu's Dindigul locks and Kandangi sarees- two products have recieved Geographical Indication (GI) tags by the Geographical Indication Registry of India in Chennai.

About Dindigul locks

The Dindigul locks are known for their superior quality and durability, thatsway the city is called Lock City. The lock-making unit was set up by Sankralingachari brothers in Dindugl more than 150 years ago. and they makeover 50 varieties of locks.

About Kandangi sarees

The Kandangi cotton sarees are hand-woven by the highly skilled weavers in the town. They take nearly a week to make an exquisite saree. The sarees were made in the town for more than 150 years and its history is interwoven with the story of the influential business community of Chettiars.

BSE and SUFI join hands to launch steel futures

 

The Steel Users Federation of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The MoU aims to help the later launch futures trading in steel.

The BSE and SUFI will work towards enlisting steel futures in both long and flat steel to help industry players hedge the risk on the exchange platform.

 Government-e-Marketplace signs MoU with SIDBI

 

Government e Marketplace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Small Industries Development Bank of India.

It aims to make it easiers for Micro, Small & Medium Enterpries (MSMEs), Women Self Help Groups and various loan beneficiaries under MUDRA and Stand-up India, to sell their products on the platform.

The MoU signed with SIDBI will enable promotion of special initiatives of GeM.

The MoU was signed in Delhi.

Union HRD Minister launches Integrated Online junction ‘Shagun’

 

Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' launched one of the world's largest Integrated Online Junction for School Education 'Shagun' in New Delhi.

School Education Shagun is an over-arching initiative to make the education system more transparent by creating a junction for all online portals and websites relating to various activities of the Department of School Education and Literacy in the Government of India and all States and Union Territories.

The app will provide all the details about the education system in the country as well as detailed information about schools with a feedback procedure structured for the parents.

 

 IIT Guwahati signs MoU with RD Grow Green India for safer drinking water
 

IIT Guwahati has signed an MoU with RD Grow Green India Pvt for Technology transfer for safer drinking water.

This "Chemical-free" treatment technique might be useful to the citizens in rural and urban areas as well.

The Technology is based on the 'Apparatus and Method for Removal of Fluride, Iron, Arsenic and Microorganisms from Contaminated Drinking Water'.

 

Mumbai ranks 45th & Delhi 52nd in 2019 world's Safe Cities Index

 

Mumbai ranked as the 45th safest city on the Safe Cities Index (SCI).

Delhi got 52nd position.

The list was topped by Tokyo (Japan) followed by Singapore and Osaka in 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.

The report was released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

A total of six out of 10 cities of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, made it to the top 10 spots. Other cities Sydney and Melbourne were also placed in the top 10 list.

Seoul (South Korea) joined the top-10 cities' legue taking 8th place with Copenhagen.

Yangon (Myanmar), Karachi (Pakistan) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) were ranked at the bottom of the list.

The Safe Cities Index (SCI) 2019 ranks 60 countries worldwide across five continents and measures the multi-faceted nature of urban safety, with indicators categorised as digital, infrastructure, health and personel security.

Pakistan test-fires nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile Ghaznavi

 

Pakistan has successfully test-fired nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile Ghaznavi from Sonmiani teat range near Karachi located in Balochistan.

The missile was built with capability to diliver different types of warheads including nuclear and conventional up to range of 290 km.

The missile was tracked by the National Development Complex (NDC) ground control station, which is located at a 220 km distance from the test range.

The NDC is Pakistan's missile developer, which has its headquarters in Fatehjang, Punjab (Pakistan).

 

HUA launches 'Angikaar campaign'

 

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has launched the 'Angikaar campaign' a move aimed at bringing beneficiaries of PMAY (urban) into the fold of other central schemes such as Ujjawala and Ayushman Bharat.

The campaign will officially be rolled out in all cities with PMAY(U) on October 2 and culminate on December 10.

Around 88 lakh houses approved against the demand of 1.12 crore.

The Angikaar aims at reaching out all the beneficiaries of the PMAY(U) in a phased manner.
