Deutsche Bank appoints Kaushik Shaparia as CEO for India

 

Kaushik Shaparia has been appointed as the chief executive officer of Deutsche Bank as India's head.

He will succeed Ravneet Gill who is the MD and CEO of YES Bank.

Shaparia's appointment will be effective from May 2019.

He served as Asia Pacific Head of Corporate Banking Coverage within Institutional and Treasury Coverage, Global Head of subsidiary Coverage and has a 30-year experience at the Bank.

Cipla Chairman Yusuf Hamied received UK Royal Honour

 

Yusuf Hamied, the chairman of Cipla pharmaceutical company was honoured in the 2019 list of new fellows of the UK's Royal Society.

The 82-year-old Cipla has been elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society, UK for his distinguished service in the field of science.

The UK Royal Society elected 51 eminent scientists as Fellows of the Royal Society, many of whom are of Indian origin.

Indian scientists elected fellows were Gurdyal Besra, Manjul Bhargava, Anant Parekh, Akshay Venkatesh, Gagandeep Kang who has been become the first Indian woman scientist to be selected as a fellow of the UK's Royal Society. 

 

Sri Lanka's 1st Satellite 'Raavana-1' launched into Space

 

Sri Lanka has launched its first satellite 'Raavana-1' into space from NASA's Flight Facility on Virginia's east shore.

'Raavana 1' weights around 1.05 kg and the lifespan of the satellite is around one and a half years.

The satellite was designed and built at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan by two Sri Lankan research engineers.

Its camera mission is to capture images of Sri Lanka and its neighbouring countries.

The objective of the project is to help countries to build their first satellite with the assistance of the United Nations.

Exim Bank funds projects worth USD 267 mn in Rwanda

 

India's Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank) has provided soft loans of USD 266.60 million to Rwanda for various projects.

The funding, done in three separate tranches to Rwanda, is to support:

  • agricultural projects,
  • development of special economic Zones (SEZs) and
  • for financing a road project in the African nation.

INS Kolkata and Shakti to Participate in IFR in China

 

Two Indian Navy warships, namely INS Kolkata and INS Shakti will participate in International Fleet Review (IFR) that is scheduled to take place on April 21, 2019, in Qingdao, China as part of 70th Anniversary celebrations of People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy).

The objective of the IFR to promote goodwill, co-operation strengthening and exhibit their organizational capabilities.

INS Kolkata & Shakti

INS Kolkata is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors to address threats in all dimensions of naval warfare, while INS Shakti is one of the largest tankers that can transport over 27000 tonnes and is capable of carrying 15,000 tonnes of liquid cargo and over 500 tonnes of solid cargo.
