Karnataka categorises Nicotine as "class A poision"

 

 

The Karnataka government has classified Nicotine as "Class A poision" by amending the karnataka Poisons (Possession and Sale) Rules 2015.

The main aim is to strengthen the enforcement of the ban on production and sale of electronic cigarettes.

The notification has also ordered the suspension of all kinds of promotion of e-cigarettes, including online promotion. This will curb the illegal sale, smuggling of nicotine catridges and e-cigarettes.

Class A poison are Highly toxic chemicals, which even in very small quantities as gas or vapour in the air are dangerous to life (such as cyanogen, hydrocyanic acid, nitrogen peroxide).

Ravinder Takkar appointed as MD-CEO of Vodafone Idea

 

Ravinder Takkar has been appointed as the MD and CEO of Idea-Vodafone for a period of three years.

He is currently a board member of Vodafone Idea and Indus Towers, where he is responsible for all Vodafone Group interests in India.

He will replace Balesh Sharma.

Home Ministry fixes the retirement age of CARF personnel at 60 years

 

The Union Home Ministry has fixed the retirement age of all Central Armed Police Force personnel at  60 years.

MHA has issued the order following the 2019 Delhi High Court verdict.

According to an order by the MHA, the retirement age will be applicable to personnel of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), BSF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). CISF, SSB and regular cadre of the Paramilitary component of the Assam Rifles (AR).

 

India becomes the largest SO2 emitter in the world

 

According to an analysis of a NASA data released by environment NGO Greenpeace, India is the world's largest emmitter of anthropogenic sulphur dioxide, which is produced from coal burning, and greatly contributes to air polution.

India is largest emitter of SO2 in the world, with more than 15% of all anthropogenic SO2 hotspots detected by the NASA OMI Satellite.

 

Shavendra Silva appointed as Commander of the Sri Lankan Army

 

Shavendra Silva has been appointed commander of Sri Lankan's army by President Maithripala Sirisena.

He succeeds Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

He has been in the army for 34 years.

He also served as Ambassador and the Deputy Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York from 2010-2015.

Mitchell Johnson becomes MCC Honourary Life member

 

Former Australian player Mitchell Johson has been elected as an Honorary Life Member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Johnson represented Australia in 153 One Day Internationals picking up 239 wickets, 73 international Test matches claiming 313 wickets and 30 T-20 Internationals in which he takes 38 wickets.

Johnson made his ODI debut for Australia in 2005.

World Mosquito Day: 20 August 2019

 

World Mosquito Day is observed annually on 20 August.

The Day is marks the historic discovery of the link between mosquitoes and malaria transmission by Sir Ronald Ross a British doctor in 1897.

It aims to raise awarness about the causes of malaria and how it can be prevented, as well as fundraising for search into the cure of malaria.

Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated on 20 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

This year is the 75th Birth Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

Shri Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944, in Bombay. He was the youngest Prime Minister of India.
