'One Nation, One Ration Card scheme to be implemented by 1 June 2020

 

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan announced that the 'One Nation, One Ration Card scheme will be implemented by 1 June 2020 in India.

Earlier, the scheme was announced to be launched by 30 June 2020.

Under this scheme a beneficiary will be able to avail benefits across the country using the same ration card.

The scheme allows the portability of food security benefits across India, that is, poor migrant workers can buy subsidized rice and wheat from any ration shop in the country.

 

12th National Tribal Youth Exchange Programme inaugurated in Punducherry.

 

The 12th National Tribal Youth Exchange Programme inaugurated in Punducherry. The Programme was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Dr. Kiran Bedi.

The programme has been jointly organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and Punducherry Government.

The programme has been aimed to ensure the development and empowerment of tribal youths.

 

Kiren Rijiju flagged off 'Fit India Cyclothon' in Panaji, Goa

 

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju flagged off 'Fit India Cyclothon' in Panaji, Goa.

This inaugural event of 'Fit India Cyclothon' organised by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The Cyclothon was flagged off from the Campal Parade Ground and culminated at Bal Bhavan.

The Cyclothon event witnessed participation by over 500 cycling enthusiasts who came together to cycle through a five-kilometre stretch within the Panaji city.

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the 2nd edition of 'NIC Tech Conclave 2020' in New Delhi.

This 2nd edition of the Tech Conclave is organized by National Informatics Centre.

The theme of two-day 'NIC Tech Conclave 2020' is 'Technologies for Next-Gen Governance'.

 

9th International Children's Film Festival begins in Kolkata

 

The 9th International Children's Film Festival is being conducted in Kolkata from January 19 to 26, 2020.

The film festival is an initiative of of the West Bengal state government in collaboration with the Shishu Kishore Akademi.

About 250 films from 45 countries will be screened at the festival.

The National Award winner Children actor, Talha Arsad Rishi inaugurates the festival.

18th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).

 

The Iranian film 'Castle of Dreams' directed by Reza Mirakarimi won the Best Film Award in Asian Competition section of the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).

The film also won the Best Director Award.

Indian film 'Finally Love' ' directed by Anjan Dutt bagged Best Audience Award in Cinema of World Category.

Sri Lankan director Prasanna Vithanage's film 'Children of the Sun' won Special Jury Award.

A total of 220 films from 74 countries were shown at the festival. The DIFF is being organized by Rainbow Film Festival since 1992 with support from Bangladesh government and many other organizations.

The theme of this year's festival was 'better film, better audience, better society.

 

Nripendra Misra appointed as the Chairman of NMML

 

Nripendra Misra has been appointed as the Chairman of the Executive Council (EC) of the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML).

He was the former principal secretary to the Prime Minister.

The eight-member council has also been reconstituted, with Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash as the new the vice chairman.

 

Arjun Munda becomes the president of Archery Association of India

 

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda has been elected as the new President of the Archery Association of India (AAI) for four years term.

He won a clear majority over his rival BVP Rao with 34- 18 votes.

Captain Abhimanyu Sindhu (Maharashtra) was elected senior vice-president while Pramod Chandurkar (Maharashtra) became the secretary-general, and Rajendra Singh Tomar (Uttarakhand) was elected as treasurer.

India successfully test-fired K-4 Ballistic Missile from Andhra Pradesh

 

India has successfully test-fired submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) K-4 ballistic missile at the Visakhapatnam coast in Andhra Pradesh.

It has a strike range of 3,500 kilometre.

The K-4 ballistic missile was developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The missile was launched from an underwater platform in the sea. India is the fourth country after the United States (US), Russia, China to launch submarine-launched ballistic missiles with a strike range of 3,500 km.

Zomato acquires Uber Eats business in India

 

 Gurgaon-based Food delivery startup and restaurant aggregator 'Zomato' has acquired the Indian operations of Uber Eats.

The acquisition was done in an all-stock deal that will give Uber 9.99% stake in Zomato.

It is in the range of over USD 350 million. Uber Eats in India will discontinue operations and direct restaurants, delivery partners, and users of the Uber Eats apps to the Zomato platform.

The report was published by Global non-profit organization.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) India annual report, which examines carbon reduction activities undertaken by different companies and firms operating in various countries across the globe.

In the annual report, the United States of America secured the top stop followed by Japan, United Kingdom and France.
