India has become a net importer of steel in the fiscal year 2018-19 that ended on 31 March for the first time in three years, as the country lost market share among its traditional steel buyers and imports jumped on demand for higher-quality steel domestically.
India's steel imports increased by 4.7% to 7.84 million tonnes in 2018-19 from 7.48 million tonnes a year earlier.
The country's finished steel exports fell by 34% in the fiscal year that ended in March to 6.36 million tonnes.

Maheshwari will be responsible for managing an integrated business strategy to stimulate Twitter's audience and revenue growth in the country, overseeing Twitter India's teams in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.

India ranked at 17th position among 100 countries in 2018, from the 37th spot in 2017 in the Startup Ecosystem Ranking for 2019 according to data released by StartupBlink.
The ranking was based on the strength of its startup ecosystem, as per StartupBlink, which tracks startup ecosystems on a number of parameters.
The report has taken the startup ecosystems of 1,000 cities and 100 countries for the ranking.
Bangalore, New Delhi, and Mumbai were the top cities in the Indian startup ecosystem.
In terms of global rankings, the top three spots remained unchanged with the United States, United Kingdom and Canada taking first and second and third rank respectively.
