Katerina Sakellaropoulou becomes Greece’s first woman president

 

Katerina Sakellaropoulou became the first woman President of Greece for a peroid of 5 years.

She will be offcially sworn in as Greece's 13th President in April, 2020.

She will succeed Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

 

India Opens 1st Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre in Niger

 

Union External Affairs Ministry S. Jaishankar and President of Niger Mahamadou Issoufou jointly inaugurated the first convention centre established in Africa by India.

It is the first centre to be established in Africa by India to honour the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.

The convention centre has been designed as a spacious, modern and eco-friendly facility, including a 2,000 capacity Plenary Hall, to witness high-level and wide-ranging paticipation from African Union member states and other high-level conventions.

 

Switzerland tops the Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2020, India ranks 72nd

 

Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI) 2020 has been released at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

India has secured 72nd place in the list whie last year India was ranked 80th in Global Talent Competitive Index.

Switzerland has topped the list while the USA and Singapore secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

Kazakhstan, India and Sri Lanka have occupied the top 3 spots in the Central and South Asia region.

 

Jharkhand’ Jharia is the most polluted Indian city & Lunglei, Mizoram least polluted: Greenpeace India report 2018

 

According to Greenpeace India Report, The coal-belching town of Jharia in Jharkhand is the most polluted Indian city. Out of 287 cities 231 cities were severely polluted.

Dhanbad in Jharkhand which is known for its rich coal reserves and industries, is the second-most polluted city in India.

Delhi was 10th most polluted city in 2018, an improvement by two ranks as compared to 2017.

Lunglei in Mizoram is the least polluted followed by Meghalaya's Dowki.

 

Airtel joins hands with Google cloud to bring G Suite to Indian SMBs

 

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has joined hands with cloud computing services provider Google Cloud.

Under which Airtel will offer services provided by Google’s G Suite to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in India, as part of its integrated information and communication technology portfolio. 

G Suite is a set of intelligent apps-Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar and more-designed with real-time collaboration and machine intelligence to bring people together and help them work smarter and safer.

 

SoftBank appoints Manoj Kohli as India head

 

SoftBank group has appointed Manoj Kohli as its India's head. 

Kohli will work closely with portfolio company founders and CEOs in India.

He was previously the executive chairman of Softbank's renewable energy arm SB Energy for about five years, before being the MD and CEO of Bharti Airtel for 13 years.

 

Former Indian cricketer Man Mohan Sood passes away

 

Former Indian Test batsman and National selector Man Mohan Sood passed away at the age of 80.

Sood played one and 39 first-class matches with one century in his cricket career.

 

France to train Indian flight surgeons for ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission. 

 

France will train Indian flight surgeons for the human space mission Gaganyaan.

The training is a critical aspect of the Gaganyaan project that is aimed at sending three Indians to space by 2022.

 

New MD and CEOs for Bank of Baroda, Bank of India and Canara Bank

 

The government has appointed Sanjiv Chadha MD and CEO of Bank of Boroda (BoB) for the period of three year.. He will succeed P S Jayakumar.

Lingam Venkat Prabhakar has been appointed as the new MD and CEO of Canara Bank. He will succeed R A Sankara Narayanan.

Atanu Kumar Das has been appointed as the new MD and CEO of Bank of India.

Challa Sreenivasulu Setty appointed managing director of SBI

 

Challa Sreenivasulu Setty has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the State Bank of India.

He has been appointed for a period of three years.

He is currently serving as the deputy Managing Director of the State Bank of India (SBI).

 

Priya Prakash wins Cisco Youth Leadership Award 2019

 

Priya Prakash won the Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award for 2019.

She is the founder and CEO of India based HealthSetGo.

The award contributed to Priya Prakash for her school health programme that aims at providing 360 degree healthcare support to children.

The prestigious award honours an individual aged 18 - 30.

The award includes a cash prize of $250,000.

 

 IMF lowers India’s 2019 growth forecast to 4.8% from 6.1%

 

International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected India's growth rate for the fiscal year 2019 as 4.8%.

IMF's World Economic Outlook has also projected India's growth rate as 5.8%, down 0.9% point from the previous estimate. For 2021, the estimate is 6.5%.

 

 NPCI Launches Blockchain-Based Vajra Platform To Secure Payments

 

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a blockchain-technology based payment system 'Vajra Platform' for automating payment clearing and settlement processes.

Vajra Platform is based on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), to provide highly secure and tamper-evident transactions stored in a distributed and immutable database.
