CBSE launches new podcast app "Shiksha Vani"


The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched the podcast app 'Shiksha Vani' that will enable all the stakeholders to receive the latest updates in a timely and seamless manner.

It will be used to send out major announcements made by the board.

Kazakhstan officially renames its Capital Astana to Nursultan


Kazakhstan has renamed its capital Astana to Nursultan to honor its ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The change was announced after Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was sworn in as a new president of Kazakhstan.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was sworn in as president a day after Nursultan Nazarbayev resigned from the post.

Mr. Nazarbayev, 78, served nearly 30 years as president of the nation.

Tata Coffee appoints Chacko Purackal Thomas as MD & CEO


Tata Coffe announced the appointment of Chacko Purackal Thomas as the managing director and chief executive officer.

Thomas will replace Sanjiv Sarin.

He will assume the charge from April 1, 2019.

He currently works as the executive director and deputy CEO of the Tata Group firm.


Physicist Marcelo Gleiser receives Templeton Prize 2019


Brazilian physicist and astronomer Marcelo Gleiser has been awarded the Templeton Prize 2019 for his work blending hard science and spirituality.

The prize carries a monetary award of about $1.4 million.

Gleiser is the first Latin American to win this award and the 49th recipient of the award, joining a list that also includes Mother Teresa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and the Dalai Lama.

The Templeton Prize is presented to honor a living person who has made an exceptional contribution to affirming life's spiritual dimension, whether through insight, discovery, or practical works.

The Templeton Prize was established in 1972 by the late global investor and philanthropist Sir John Templeton.


International Day for Achievers (IDA): 24th March


International Day for Achievers (IDA) observed annually on 24th March to pay tribute to achievers in any field for their outstanding achievements.

The day has been established to recognize all achievers who otherwise wouldn't be even known.


World Tuberculosis Day: 24th March


World Tuberculosis Day observed on 24th March every year to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis.

The theme for World TB Day 2019 was 'Its time' . The emphasis for this year's event is to pressure world leaders to "act on commitments".

World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Fund and Stop TB launched a joint initiative "Find. Treat. All. #End TB" on World TB Day.

India achieves 84% fall in TB deaths among HIV affected patient by 2017. The global effort combat TB was successful by saving around 54 million lives since 2000. It reduced the mortality rate by 42%.

Centre and State Government working together to make India TB-free by 2025.

The purpose of the day is to honour the memory of victims of gross and systematic human rights violations and promote the importance of the right to truth and justice.

London Olympics bronze medalist Saina Nehwal named as 'sportsperson of the year' at the annual Telangana Sports Journalists Association awards function.

Rio Olympics silver medalist P.V. Sindhu was named 'outstanding performer' in women's section and Pullela Gopichand as Coach of the Year.

Indian badminton team was conferred with "team of the year" and the Badminton Association of Telangana received 'Association of the Year' award.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) named for its outstanding contribution to sports while Arjun Erigaisi named as the most promising player at the same event.


Delhi IGI Airport becomes the 12th busiest Airport: ACI Report


The Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi has elevated 4 ranks and stands at the 12th position among world's busiest airports, as per a data released by Airports Council International (ACI).

The list of the world's busiest airports by passenger traffic ranking has been topped by Hartsfield -Jackson Atlanta International Airport (US) followed by Beijing Capital International Airport (Chian) and Dubai International Airport (UAE).

In 2018, India became the world's third-largest aviation market in terms of passenger followed by US and China.


IIT Madras partnered with ESPNcricinfo to launch 'Superstats' to analyze cricket statistics


Indian Institute of Technology Madras has partnered with ESPNcricinfo to launch Superstats, a next level artificial intelligence to analyze cricket statistics through machine learning and forecast.

Superstats is developed by a team headed by the IIT Madras research scholars Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Mahesh Panchagnula along with ESPN team.

Superstats will analyze cricket using data science for the first time, give context to every event in a game and also venture new territories such as forecasting and luck
