Maharastra topped the 2nd edition of the US Green Building Council's list.

 

The 2nd edition of the United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) list consists of India's top 10 states that have the maximum number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified green buildings.

Maharastra topped the 2nd edition of the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) list with 334 LEED-certified green buildings.

Karnataka bagged No.2 spot with 232 LEED-certified green buildings.

While Tamil Nadu bagged No. 3 spot WITH 157 LEED-certified green buildings.

LEED is a widely used green building rating system in order to rank states in term of cumulative gross square feet (GSF) of certified space as of 31 December 2018.

India beats South Africa to win FIH Series Finals 2019

 

In the FIH (Federation Internationale de Hockey) Men's Series Final hockey tournament 2019, India defeated South Africa with 5-1 in a summit clash at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The goals were scored in the 2nd, 11th, 25th, 36th and 50th minutes.

Saudi Arabia became the 1st Arab country to be granted full FATF membership

 

Saudi Arabia has become the 1st Arab country to be granted full membership of the Financial Action Task Force.

It became the 39th member of FATF during the group's Annual General Meeting Orlando, Florida.

Saudi Arabia had been a founding member of the MENA arm of the group since November 2004, and its full membership came after it was reported the kingdom had made "tangible progress" and for its efforts in implementing the FATF's guidelines.

FATF is responsible for issuing international standards, policies and best practices to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation.

Bangladesh emerged as the fastest growing economy according to ADB

 

Bangladesh has emerged as the fastest growing economy among the 45 countries of the Asia-Pacific region according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The key factors of the high growth performance of Bangladesh are higher public sector investment, stronger consumption demand, revival in exports, improved power supply and higher growth in the private sector credit. 

Bangladesh registered a growth rate of 7.95 in the financial year 2018-19.

The bank predicted that the growth will be 8% in the next financial year 2019-20.

Asian champion PU Chitra won a gold medal in women's 1500m at Folksam Grand Prix

The event held in Sollentuna, Sweden.

Chitra clocked 4 minutes 12.65 seconds to finish ahead of Kenya's Mercy Cherono, who won 5000m gold in 2014 Commonwealth Games.

 

Amish Tripathi named as the director of London's Nehru Centre

 

Author Amish Tripathi has been named as the director of London's Nehru Centre, under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

He will succeed Srinivas Gotru, whose four-year tenure ended early this year.

Tripathi was appointed after he applied for the post.

The Nehru Centre was founded in 1992 with Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its founder-director.

 

World Hydrography Day: 21st June

 

World Hydrography Day is celebrated every year on 21st June across the world.

This initiative was started by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) to increase awareness about the safe navigation, technical standards, and protection of the marine environment.

The theme of the World Hydrography Day 2019 was "Hydrographic Information Driving Marine Knowledge".

 

United Nations Public Service Day: 23rd June

 

The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated every year on June 23.

The day is celebrated to mark the contribution of public service in the development process and administrators in an effort to build a better world for all.

The day was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by passing resolution 57/277 on December 20, 2002.
