WEF Global Energy Transition Index: India ranks 76

 

India ranks 76th (among 115 countries) on a global energy transition index. This annual list, compiled by Geneva-based World Economic Forum, based on their energy system performance and affordability.

In the second edition of the Energy Transition Index, India has improved its rank by two points from last year (2018).

Sweden remains on the top position and is followed by Switzerland and Norway.

NITI Aayog's Fin Tech Conclave commenced in New Delhi

 

NITI Aayog has organized FinTech Conclave at Dr. Ambedkar International Center, New Delhi.

The conclave was inaugurated by RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das.

The motive of this conference was to shape India's continued ascendancy in FinTech, build the narrative for future strategy and policy efforts, and to deliberate steps for comprehensive financial inclusion.

 

Suresh Raina became 1st cricketer to score 5,000 runs in IPL

 

Suresh Raina, a batsman of Chennai Super Kings' has become the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in Indian Premier League in Chennai.

Raina has scored 5000 runs in 177 matches at a strike-rate of 138.15 consisting 35 fifties and one hundred.

He, the most-capped cricketer in IPL, is also the only batsman to breach the 300-run mark in all 11 seasons.

 

K. Govindaraj re-elected as President of BFI

 

K. Govindaraj has been re-elected as president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) at its annual general-body meeting.

Govindaraj announced that a new six-team women's league will be held in the next three months.

Girish Gowda named as Ambassador of Karnataka LS Elections

 

Silver Medalist in Paralympic high jumper, Girish Gowda has been appointed as the ambassador of Karnataka Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

He represented India in men's high jump F-42 category during 2012 Summer Paralympics games held in London, where he clinched silver medal and he became the first Indian to win a medal in this category.

 

eBay partners with Google to allow its user to Pay via Google Pay

 

US-based e-commerce platform eBay has partnered with Google to offer Google Pay as a payment option to pay for their shopping on eBay.

This is part of the company's new managed payments programme.

The integration will help consumers with Google Pay accounts to complete purchases on eBay app or website.

But it will only be available on products sold by sellers who are participating in the managed payments programme.

The partnership will enable customers with Google Pay accounts to check out without the need for leaving the platform.

Oslo becomes world's 1st city to install wireless Electric Car Charging Stations

 

Oslo, the capital city of Norway will become the world's first city to install wireless, induction-based charging stations for its fleet of electric taxis with an aim to have a zero-emission cab system by the year 2023.

The goal of this move is to make recharging fast and efficacious so as to accelerate the adoption of more environment-friendly taxis.

Norway wants all new cars to be zero emission by 2025 whereas other nations, like Britain and France, have similar goals for 2040.

Peter Tabichi wins Global Teacher Prize for 2019

 

Kenyan math and physics teacher Peter Tabichi has been conferred with the prestigious Global Teacher Prize for 2019 at a ceremony in Dubai hosted by Hollywood actor, Hugh Jackman.

Peter has dedicated his life to helping others. He gives 80% of his teaching salary to local community projects, including education, sustainable agriculture, and peace-building.

The award recognises the "exceptional" teacher's commitment to pupils in a remote part of Kenya's Rift Valley.

 

US signs agreement with Oman to use its southern ports

 

Oman has signed an agreement with the United States that allow American ships and warplanes to take advantage of his ports and airports.

The deal is aimed at bolstering Omani-American military relations. The agreement was signed by the defense minister of both countries.

The agreement will allow the US forces to take advantage from the facilities offered at some of the Sultanate's ports and airports during visits of the US military vessels and aircraft, particularly in the port of Duqm.
