N S Srinath appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank

 

N S Srinath has been appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank for a period of 3 years. The appointment is subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India and the Shareholders of the Bank.

Srinath started his career in Canara Bank in the year 1970 and served in the areas of Information Technology, Projects and HRD.

Srinath served as Executive Director of the Bank of Baroda and superannuated on May 31, 2012.

RBI slaps Rs 2 crore penalty on PNB for violation of SWIFT norms

 

The Reserve Bank of India imposed Rs.2 crore as a penalty on Punjab National Bank for non-compliance of regulatory directions regarding SWIFT operations.

Society for World Wide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) provides a network which enables the financial institutions worldwide to send and receive information about the financial transactions in a secure manner.

Book Title 'Every Vote Counts' authored by Navin Chawala launched

 

The book title 'Every Vote Counts-The Story of India's Elections' has been authored by former Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla.

Former Vice-President Hamid Ansari launched the book in New Delhi.

This book is about how the electoral machinery works in India.

 

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh appointed as Next Chief of Naval Staff

 

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh has been appointed as the next (24th) chief of naval staff.

He will succeed present Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba who retires on May 30, 2019.

At present, He is serving as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

Before taking over as FOC-in-C Eastern Naval Command in October 2017, he also served as Deputy Chief as well as Vice Chief of Naval Staff.

 

Shambhu S Kumaran appointed as Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco

 

Shambhu S Kumaran has been appointed as next India's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.

He is a 1995 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.

He will succeed Dr. Kheya Bhattacharya.

He presently works as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

Vega Rocket launched Italy's Earth-Watching PRISMA Satellite

 

Italy's new Earth-observation satellite named PRISMA launched from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana by 98 foot (30 meters) tall Vega rocket which was developed by the joint venture of Italian Space Agency OHB Italia SpA and the European Space Agency LEONARDO SpA.

PRISMA (Precursore Iperspettrale Della Missione Applicativa) is an electro-optical instrument, which is designed to take medium resolution photos to give information about environmental monitoring, natural resources, pollution and crop health.

 

UFC star Conor Mc Gregor announced his retirement from MMA

 

Irish Mixed Martial Art (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor has announced his retirement from the sport.

He is the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight and lightweight champion.

He is also the UFC's most controversial star.

 

Folk Artiste and Radio Commentator Anasuya Devi Passed Away

 

Kala Prapoorna awardee, Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi passed away at the age of 99 due to illness at Houston in the USA.

She was an eminent folk artist, radio commentator, harmonium player, music composer, and author.

Anasuya Devi was born on May 12, 1920 in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

In 1977, she was honored with a Doctorate by Andhra University. She was also an awardee of Lifetime achievement award in America and 'Queen of Folk' award in Paris.
