 Rohtang tunnel in Himachal Pradesh named as Atal tunnel

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi named Rohtang passageway in Himachal Pradesh as Atal Tunnel to mark the 95th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 

The tunnel has been named as a tribute to the former Prime Minister who took the historic decision of constructing this strategic tunnel.

It will provide all-weather connectivity to remote areas of Lahaul and Spiti Valley and also reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 Kilometres.

China, Russia, and Iran hold trilateral naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman.

The trilateral exercise will be held in the Gulf of Oman from December 27 and will continue until December 30.

 

Assam Govt.launched 'Abhinandan' scheme

 

Assam government has launched an education loan subsidy scheme 'Abhinandan' to help the students of Assam pursuing higher studies.

The scheme will provide a one-time subsidy of Rs. 50,000 in a loan to 1546 students.

The aim of the scheme is to provide a loan waiver to students of Assam who have availed education loans.

Also, the government has established no minimum income criterion for students to avail of the benefits of this scheme.

The scheme will be available through all commercial banks like Federal Bank and HDFC and also the regional rural banks like Assam Gramin Vikash Bank within Assam.

 

Airtel Payments Bank enables 24x7 NEFT transfers

 

Airtel Payments Bank has enabled 24x7 National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) transfers in-line with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

Airtel Payments Bank's customers will now be able to use NEFT at any time of the day.

The facility will be available to customers even on holidays enabling then to receive or send funds to any bank from anywhere, anytime.

 

5th Round of India-Japan Maritime Affairs Dialogue held in Tokyo

 

The 5th Round of India-Japan Maritime Affairs Dialogue held in Tokyo.

The Indian delegation was led by Shri Indra Mani Pandey, Additional Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, while the Japanese delegation was led by Ambassador Yamanaka A Osamu, Deputy Assistant Minister, Deputy Director-General in Foreign Policy Bureau.

The two sides exchanged views on various topics of mutual interest in the maritime domain and identified the means for further strengthening their maritime cooperation.

 

Indian Railways launched 'Him Darshan Express' train

 

The Indian railways have started 'Him Darshan Express' to run between Kalka and Simla route.

The train will have seven coaches, six modern and first-class AC vista-dome coaches with glass rooftop to have a panoramic view of the hilly region.

 

National Tribal Dance Festival begun in Raipur

 

The three-day National Tribal Dance Festival has begun in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The festival was inaugurated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and inaugural function was presided by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

This is for the first time the National Tribal Festival is being organized in Chhattisgarh.

More than 1300 participants from 25 states & UTs of the country and six countries are participating in this event.

 

GoI approved the release of Rs 8,655 crore as fresh capital to three PSU

 

The Government of India has approved the release of Rs 8,655 crore as fresh capital to three loss-making public sector banks including Allahabad Bank, UCO Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank.

The infusion will be done for preferential allotment of shares.

As per the reports, the finance ministry has approved Rs 2,153 crore, Rs 2,142 crore, and Rs 4,360 crore to Allahabad Bank, UCO Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank respectively.

 

India's 1st transgender university to come up in Uttar Pradesh

 

India's first university for the transgender community will be opened in the Fazilnagar block of the Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh.

It is the first of its kind university in the country, where transgender community members will be able to get an education.

The university is being built by Akhil Bhartiya Kinnar Siksha Seva Trust (All-India transgender education service trust).

The university will facilitate its members to study right from class 1 to Post Graduate (PG) and even do research and get a Ph.D. degree.
