K Natarajan appointed as new Director General of Indian Coast Guard

 

Krishnaswamy Natarajan has been appointed as the new Director General of Indian Coast Guard.

He will succeed Rajendra Singh, who retires on 30 June 2019.

K. Natarajan joined the Coast Guard on January 18, 1984.

He holds a Master Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University.

He is currently serving as Additional Director General (ADG) of ICG's Western Sea Board.

Shefali Juneja appointed India's representative to ICAO

 

Senior bureaucrat Shefali Juneja has been appointed to the post of India's representative in the Council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Montreal, Canada, for a period of three years.

She will succeed the senior IAS officer Alok Shekhar, who was selected for this post in October 2015.

She is a 1992 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre).

She is currently serving as the Joint Secretary in Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Vinit Goenka pens new book titled "Function of Data Sovereignty - The Pursuit of Supremacy"

 

The Book, "Function of Data Sovereignty - The Pursuit of Supremacy" is written by Vinit Goenka. The book is on the aspect of data generation and consumption.

The book focuses on steps and concrete actions required to build highly capable data centers to ensure data security.

It encourages policymakers on data localization and creates awareness among the people on the potential of data and implications of data.

Anupam Kher pens his autobiography "Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly"

 

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher announced his autobiography, "Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly", that will be out in August.

The book will be published by Hay House in partnership with Penguin House.

Anupam Kher is one of the most prolific actors in the Indian film industry.

The 64-year-old actor has acted in more than 530 films in several languages, both India and West, 100 plays and numerous TV shows.

He is the winner of two National awards, eight Filmfare awards, and a BAFTA nomination. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shree Award in 2004 and Padma Bhushan Award in 2016.

 

Indian women's rugby team record 1st ever international 15s win

 

The Indian women's rugby team make history with a first-ever international 15s victory by defeating Singapore in the Asia Rugby Women's Championship Division 1 in Manila, Philippines

India's Sumitra Nayak kicked a penalty in the dying minutes of the match to claim a narrow victory against Singapore with 21-19.

With this victory, India finished third in the tournament.

 

IOC new headquarters in Switzerland

 

The International Olympic Committee has formally opened new headquarter in Switzerland.

The inauguration of new headquarters comes exactly 125 years after the Olympic Games were revived.

The new headquarters cost 145 million US Dollars.

Tahir becomes SA's highest wicket-taker in World Cup history

 

South Africa's 40-year-old leg-spinner Imran Tahir has become the highest wicket-taker among South Africans in World Cup history.

Tahir achieved the feat by taking two wickets against Pakistan.

He overtook former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald, who had taken 38 wickets across World Cup matches.

 

Japan gifts Manipur a peace Museum built on WWII memories

 

Japan gifted Manipur s "Peace Museum" which is built on the memories of Battle of Imphal, one of the fiercest battles of the Second World War.

The inauguration of the Imphal Peace Museum marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Imphal.

The Imphal Peace Museum was inaugurated at Red Hill, about 20km southwest of Manipur's capital Imphal.

Anna Sarnoff has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Warner Bros.

She has become the first female chief executive officer of Warner Bros.

She will succeed Kevin Tsujihara.

Sarnoff is currently the president of BBC Studies Americas.

 

BIMSTEC Day-2019 celebrated in Dhaka

 

The BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) 7-member countries celebrated  22nd BIMSTEC Day-2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

BIMSTEC members are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Srilanka, Tailand, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A K Abdul Momen was the chief guest of the event.

The Day of the Seafarer was designated by the International Organization (IMO) in 2010.

The first Day of the Seafarer was observed on 25th June 2011.
