Justice PK Saikia appointed as Chairperson of Lokayukta in Arunachal Pradesh

 

Justice Prasanta Kumar Saikia (Retired) has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Lokayukta in Arunachal Pradesh.

Mr. Yeshi Tsering, a retired IAS Officer was also sworn-in as a member of the state Lokayukta.

Governor Dr. B D Mishra was administered the oath of office to Saikia and Tsering at Raj Bhawan in Itanagar.

The chairperson and members will hold office for a term of 5 years or till they attain 70 years of age.

Amitabh Kant gets 2 years extension as NITI Aayog CEO

 

The Appointment Committee of Cabinet has extended the tenure of Amitabh Kant's as the CEO of NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Ayog beyond June 30, 2019 to June 30, 2021.

Kant is a 1980 batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre.

He was Secretary in Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) before serving as CEO of NITI Aayog.

He was appointed as the CEO of NITI Aayog on February 17, 2016.

Government named new heads for the country's premier spy agencies IB & RAW

 

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has named new heads for the country's premier spy agencies Intelligence Bureau (IB)  and the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW).

  • Arvind Kumar as the new head of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He will succeed Rajiv Jain, who retires on June 30, 2019. Mr. Kumar is currently a special Director in the IB. He has been working with the IB since 1991.
  • Samant Goel as the chief of the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW). He will succeed Anil Dhasmana, who completes his tenure on June 29, 2019. Mr. Goel is currently a RAW Special Secretary.

Rahimatpur Police station in Satara district tops SMART survey

 

Rahimatpur police station in Satara district in Maharastra has emerged as the State topper in a survey based on the 'SMART' policing concept.

'SMART' stands for - strict and sensitive, modern and mobile, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, techno-savvy and trained.

The survey was executed by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

QCI assessed 87 shortlisted police stations across the country on a number of parameters like performance in controlling crime, the infrastructure of the police building, mess and optimal use of technology, and citizen feedback.

RBI launches Complaint Management System

 

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a software application Complaint Management System (CMS) on its website.

It will be used for lodging complaints against banks and NBFCs with a motto to improve customer experience in timely redressal of grievances.

Customers can lodge complaints against any of the entities regulated by RBI.

These complaints will be directed to the appropriate office of the Ombudsman/ Regional Office of the RBI.

The RBI is also planning to introduce a dedicated Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to track the status of complaints.

The Tribune's Journalist wins the 'Journalist of the Year' Redlink Award

 

The Tribune's Journalist Rachna Kaira has bagged the prestigious Award for 'Journalist of the Year'. She received the award for exposing the functioning of the UIDAI and its Aadhaar data cache.

The Redlink Awards are conferred to encourage good quality reporting and analysis, fair play and high ethical standards in Indian journalism.

Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 - was jointly awarded to two retired senior journalists.

  • Dinu Ranadive - who retired from Maharastra Times.
  • Sebastian D'Souza - Photojournalist who served as Photo editor for Mumbai Mirror.

 

Qu Dongyu becomes first Chinese to head FAO

 

China's agricultural deputy minister, Qu Dongyu became the first Chinese national to be elected to head the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization.

He will succeed Brazil's Jose Graziano da Sila. 

He won 108 votes followed by Catherine Geslain-Laneele of France with 71 votes and Georgia's Davit Kirvalidze with 12.

Qu Dongyu is a biologist by training and has 30 years of experience in developing digital technologies in agriculture and introducing micro credit in rural areas.

 

Ashleigh Barty becomes world No.1 women tennis player

 

Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty becomes world No.1 women tennis player by defeating Julia Goerges by 6-3, 7-5 at the Birmingham Classic in England.

She becomes the second Australian woman to achieve this historic milestone following Evonne Goolagong Cawley on April 26, 1976.

 

Lewis Hamilton wins France Grand Prix 2019

 

Mercedes Driver Lewis Hamilton won the Frace Grand Prix 2019 held in Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France.

This is his sixth win in eight races of the season 2019 and 79th of his career.
