PB Acharya sworn in as Governor of Manipur

 

Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya sworn-in-as Governor of Manipur.

Nagaland Governor Acharya will serve as Governor of Manipur as an additional charge during the absence, on leave, of Dr. Najma Heptulla, Governor of Manipur.

The oath was administered by the senior most judge of the High Court of Manipur Justice Lanushungkum Jamir.

Sharad Kumar Saraf appointed as the new President of FIEO

 

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has elected Sharad Kumar Saraf as its new President.

He will succeed Ganesh Kumar Gupta.

Saraf had earlier served FIEO two times as Vice-President and four times Regional Chairman (west region).

He is also the Chairman and Founder of Technocraft Industries (India).

Narinder Batra elected as the member of IOC

 

President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Federation International de Hockey, Narinder Batra elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

He secured 58 votes out of 62. 

He became the first Indian to have the rare distinction by becoming a member of the IOC. He has already become the first Indian to head an international federation.

With this, the number of Indians who are currently active members of IOC raised to 2. Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani was elected as an individual member of the IOC in 2016. She was the first Indian woman to be elected to IOC.

With the election of 10 new members, the total number of IOC member is 105.

Sarad Kumar Hota appointed as MD of NHB

 

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Sarad Hota as Managing Director of the National Housing Bank for a period of three years.

He succeeded Sriram Kalyanaraman.

Prior to this appointment, Hota served as the managing director and chief executive officer of Can Fin Homes.

U K Sinha Committee on MSMEs Recommendations

 

A committee formed by RBI, headed by former SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) chairman U K Sinha.

RBI's committee gives the following recommendations for MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) sector.

The committee has recommended a Rs 5,000 crore distressed asset fund for MSMEs.

The committee recommended the formation of government-sponsored Fund of Funds of Rs 10,000 crore in order to support Venture Capital and private equity firms investing in MSMEs.

The committee has suggested hiking the ceiling of collateral-free loans for MSME units to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh now.

The  'PSBLoan59Minutes.com' portal should ceter to new entrepreneurs, who lack information like GSTIN, income-tax returns, and bank statement.

The committee has recommended expanding the role of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

India and World Bank sign USD 400M loan agreement to eliminate TB

 

India has signed a loan agreement of $400 million with the World Bank for program towards the elimination of Tuberculosis (TB) from the country. In Indian, around five lakh people died every year due to Tuberculosis.

The program will cover nine States and it will support the government's National Strategic Plan to end TB in India by 2025.

The Program will provide financial incentives to private sector care providers for reporting cases of TB and ensuring that their complete the treatment regimen.

Mumbai in top 20 most expensive cities in Asia for expatriates

 

According to a survey by global consulting leader Mercer, Mumbai is India's most expensive city and among the top 20 most expensive cities in Asia for expatriates as its residential housing prices remain the highest in the world.

Mumbai dropped down 12 spots and was ranked at the 67th position out of 209 cities surveyed

Eight out of the top ten of the most expensive cities in the world for expatriates are Asian cities.

The costliest city in the world is Hong Kong for the second consecutive year, followed by Tokyo, Singapore and Seoul.

The world's least expansive cities for expatriates are Tunis 9209), Tashkent (208) and Karachi (207).

31.4% of Indian children will be stunted by 2022: Food and Nutrition Security Report

 

According to an analysis of the country's food and nutrition security, 31.4% of Indian children will be stunted by 2022, which means one in every three Indian children under five years will be stunted by 2022.

The report is prepared by the UN World Food Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

In State like Bihar (48%) and Uttar Pradesh (46%), almost one in two children stunted, while it is only one in five children in Kerala and Goa (20% each).

 

Virat Kohli becomes the fastest cricketer to score 20,000 international runs

 

Indian captain Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to score 20,000 international runs in just 417 innings.

Kohli broke the record set by legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies great Brian Lara.

Kohli has done so in 417 innings (131 Tests, 224 ODIs and 62 T20Is), while Tendulkar and Lara each took 453 innings.

The 30-year-old Kohli reached the milestone when he scored of 37 in India's 6th match in World Cup tournament against West Indies.

Kohli has now become the 12th batsman to achieve this extraordinary feat and the third Indian after Tendulkar (34,357 runs) and Rahul Dravid (24,208 runs).

 

Indian woman crowned Miss Universe Australia

 

India born Priya Serrao has won the Miss Universe Australia title for 2019.

The 26-year old was born in Belmannu, Karnataka, near the city of Mangalore in India.

Western Australia's Bella Kasimba and another Victorian Marijana Radmanovic rounded out 2019's top three, placing second and third.
