RBI relaxes leverage ratio for banks

 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reduced the leverage ratio (LR) to 4% for Domestic Systemically Important Banks (DSIBs) and 3.5% for other banks, effective from the quarter commencing October 1, 2019.

This has been done for banks to help them boost their lending activities.

The leverage ratio is defined under Basel-III norms, is Tier-I capital as a percentage of the bank's exposures.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi has written her debut novel titled 'The New Delhi Conspiracy'.

She has co-written it with Krishna Kumar.

It was published by HarperCollins India.

 

Sameer Gulati bags 'world best coder title' at TechGig Code Gladiators 2019

 

In the 6th edition of TechGig Code Gladiators 2019, an annual coding battle, ex-winner Sameer Gulati won the title of the 'world best coder', 

He won prize money of Rs 3 lakhs.

The event was held at Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai.

The event featured 10 hackathon theme rounds on technologies including Chatbots, Robotic Process Automation, Fintech, Software, Testing, and New Commerce.

 

IIT Kanpur honours Gopichand with honorary doctorate

 

India's chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand honoured with an honorary doctorate by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

He was honoured on the occasion of the 52nd convocation

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are past recipients of the honorary doctorate from IIT-Kanpur.

 

India successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II

 

India successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II, a surface-to-surface missile, from a test range off the Odisha coast.

Prithvi-II is the first missile developed by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO).

The missile is capable of attacking targets at a range of 350 km. It is capable of carrying 500 to 1000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.

BSES launches energy saving app

 

BSES Yamuna Power Limited has partnered with several private bodies to launch behavioural energy saving app 'Susthome' to cut down electricity consumption.

BSES partnered with energy resources institute TERI, Panasonic India and the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water to launch the app.

 The app Susthome will track consumers' energy consumption patterns, analyse and compare it with those of similar homes in the vicinity and show energy saving potential.

 

Go Tribal campaign launched

 

Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) has launched 'Go Tribal' campaign in association with Amazon Global in New Delhi.

The collaboration aims to create awareness and promote tribal arts and crafts as well as aid in socio-economic welfare of over 700 Indian tribes by promoting and making available tribal handcrafted textiles, jewelry, and other accessories via global online marketspaces.

 

International Day of the Tropics: 29 June

 

The International Day of the Tropics is observed every year on 29 June across the world.

Its aim is to raise awareness to specific challenges faced by tropical areas and far-reaching implications of issues affecting the world's tropical zone.

The day was instituted by United Nation General Assembly on 14 June  by adopting the resolution 

 

International Asteroid Day 2019: 30 June

 

International Asteroid Day is observed every year on 30 June.

It is recognized by the United Nations.

It is aimed to create awareness about the role of asteroids in the formation of our universe, how their resources can be used in the future, how asteroids provide the way for future exploration and also how we can protect our planet from the impacts of asteroids.

The day marks the anniversary of the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation, on 30 June 1908.
