Sri Lanka signs tripartite agreement with India and Japan

 

Sri Lanka has signed Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) a tripartite agreement with India and Japan for development of eastern terminal of Colombo port.

As per the agreement , a terminal operator company will be set up with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority will hold 51% majority stake in the port development while Japan and India will have combined stake of 49 percent.

Mohamed Nasheed nominated as the country's parliamentary speaker

 

The former maldives president Mohamed Nasheed has nominated as the coountry's parliamentary speaker.

Nasheed was unanimously chosen to head the People's Majlis, or the parliament, by his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) which won a near three quarter majority in the 87-member assembly in April.

 N Kumar conferred the lifetime recognition award by the Confederation of Horticulture Association of India

 

Lifetime recognition award by the confederation of Horticulture Association of India was given to Professor N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

The award has been conferred for his outstanding contribution in the field of horticulture and academic leadership focussed on human resource development in agriculture.

Scott Morrison sworn in as Australia's PM

 

Scott Morrison was sworn in as Prime Minister of Australia, 11 days after retaining the top position in the general elections.

Morrison was administered the oath by the Queen Elizabeth's officical representative in Australia, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove in Canberra.

Marrison's new Cabinet includes 7 women.

Naveen Patnaik sworn in as Odisha CM

 

Naveen Patnaik was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Odisha for the fifth consecutive term.

Mr.Patnaik and his ministerial was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Ganeshi Lal.

Along with Patnaik, 11 Cabinet Ministers and 9 other Ministers have also taken the oath.

The portfolio of the ministers will be allotted soon

Saudi Arabia lifts export ban on fruits and vegetable from Kerala

 

Saudi Arabia lifts export ban on fruits and vegetable from Kerala.

The ban was imposed in June 2018 due to the outbreak of Nipah virus.

Kozhikode airport exports 20 tonnes of fruits and vegetables per day worth $50,000 to various destinations in Saudi.

Kerala exports around 150 tonnes of perishable commodities to gulf countries and of this, the consignment to Soudi Arabia alone was 30-40 tonnes.

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers: 29th May

 

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was celebrated on 29 May 2016 to honour the work of UN Peacekeepers.

The theme for this year's Day is "Protecting Civilians' Protecting Peace"

In December 2002, Untied Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had designated May 2019 as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers by passing Resolution 57/129.

International Everest Day: 29th May

 

International Everest Day is observed on 29th May. The day is observed every year in memoey of thr first summit of Mt. Everest on 29 May 1953 undertaken by Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa from Nepal who became first humans to achieve the feat.

Nepal dacided to observe the day as International Everest Day since 2008, when the legendary climber Hillary passed away.

Everest Day on may 29 every year in memory of the first summit of Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on the day in 1953.
