Indian Navy Conducts 5-day Coastal Security Exercise 'Matla Abhiyan' in Kolkata

 

Indian Navy has carried out a 5-day coastal security exercise called, 'Matla Abhiyaan' at Sunderban region in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The exercise is conducted to spread awareness about the coastal security to the local community & understand the navigational complexities in the Sunderban delta waters.

 

Prakash Javadekar inaugurates WSDS 2020 in Delhi

 

Union  Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar has inaugurated a 3-day long World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2020 in Delhi.

The theme is "Towards 2030 Goals: Making the Decade Count".

The Summit was organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a research institute specializes in the fields of energy.

 

President of India inaugurated 34th Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Haryana

 

President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the 34th edition of Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Surajkund, Haryana.

The Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs

 

3-day Narmada Mahotsav to held in Madhya Pradesh.

 

Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, 3-day Narmada Mahotsav is being started from in the picturesque plains of Amarkantak on the occasion of Narmada Jayanthi.

The Narmada is a major source of drinking water, irrigation & hydroelectricity for Madhya Pradesh & Gujarat.

During the  Mahotsav, one day will be reserved for all women activities under the theme of "Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao".

 

Mohammed Allawi appointed as PM of Iraq

 

Mohammed Tawfiq  Allawi was appointed as PM of Iraq by its President  Barhim Salih.

His predecessor Adel Abdul Mahdi resigned in November 2019 anti-government demonstrations.

Mr. Allawi has a month to form a new government, which he will lead until early elections.

Mohammed Allawi served twice as communications minister under Former PM Nouri al-Maliki.

 

Gopal Baglay appointed as Next High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka.

 

Diplomat Shri Gopal Baglay has been appointed as the Next High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka.

Gopal Baglay, a 1992 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Baglay also served as the Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs and Deputy High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

Baglay will replace Taranjit Sandhu, who has been appointed as Indian Ambassador to U.S.

 

India, Maldives sign 5 MoU to establish Addu Tourism Zone

 

India and Maldives signed 5 MoU to establish Addu Tourism Zone in five islands of Addu Atoll in Maldives with a project cost of $2.49 millon.

A 6th MoU to set up a bottled water plant in Hoarafushi an inhabited island in Maldives was also signed.

All six projects are grant projects falling under India's High Impact Community Development Scheme (HICDP).

 

Pramod Agrawal  became the Coal India Chairman

 

Pramod Agrawal became the new Chairman & Managing Director (MD) Coal India Limited (CIL).

He was the successor of Anil Kumar Jha.

Agrawal, 1991 batch IAS officer, served as the principal secretary for urban departments and housing department in Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal.

 

Novak Djokovic won the men's singles title of Australian 2020

 

Serbia's Novak Djokovic won his record 8th Men's singles title in the Australian Open 2020 Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Novak Djokovic has become only the 3rd man to win at least 8 titles at a Grand Slam after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

He defeated Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem.
