Vipin Anand appointed as MD of LIC

 

Vipin Anand has been appointed as Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India.

Prior to taking charge as MD he was in charge of LIC's Western Zone, headquartered at Mumbai. He has also headed LIC's east-central zone headquartered at Patna.

WhatsApp launches Tip Line to curb Fake News

 

Messaging app WhatsApp has launched an India-focused fact-checking feature to combat fake news and rumours with the run-up to to the Lok Sabha elections.

WhatsApp unveiled a platform named 'Checkpoint Tipline' which can review the content in the form of pictures, video links or text.

This tip line feature has been developed by WhatsApp in collaboration with India-based skilling startup PROTO.

The tip line will help create a database of rumours to study misinformation during election.

 

UAE awards PM Modi with Highest Civilian honour, Zayed Medal

 

UAE (United Arab Emirates) honoured Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest civilian award, Zayed Medal for giving "a big boost" to bilateral relations between both of the nations.

President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan conferred PM Modi with the award.

Past recipients of this award were Russian president Vladimir Putin, former US president George W Bush, French leader Nicolas Sarkozy and German politician Angela Merkel.

RBI sets limits for Ways and Means Advances

 

The Reserve Bank of India in consultation with the government of India has set the limits for Ways and Means Advances (WMA) for the first half financial year 2019-20 at Rs 75000 crore.

Ways and Means advances is temporary loan facilities provided by Reserve Bank of India to the centre and state government.

Chicago makes History, elects Lori Lightfoot as 1st Black-Woman Mayor

 

Chicago has created history by electing an African-American woman as its mayor for the first time.

She will take over office from Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

She is a former prosecutor and practicing lawyer who has never before held elected office, won the city's mayoral race by a huge margin.

She will also be Chicago's first openly gay mayor.
