Waheeda Rehman to be honoured with Kishore Kumar Samman


Waheeda Rehman will be honoured the Madhya Pradesh government's National Kishore Kumar Samman on 4 Feb 2020.

The award, for the year 2018, will be given to Rehman at her Bandra residence in Mumbai by Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Vijaylaxmi Sadho.

The award carries, which carries a Rs 2 lakh and a citation.

The function coincided with the death anniversary of legendary singer Kishore Kumar.


India's biggest rural technical festival 'Antahpragnya 2020' started in Telangana


M Prashanthi, District Collector of Nirmal, inaugurated National Level India's Biggest Rural Technical Festival titled 'Antahpragnya 2020' started in Telangana.

The theme of this festival is " Spot and encourage rural tech innovators".

The festival was held for 3 days from Jan 31 to Feb 2 with over 200 events viz Campus Farming competition, Robo Racing, Robo Soccer, and others.

Amazon India has partnered with Eastern Railways inorder to set up a pick-up kiosk at Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata, West Bengal.

This follows after the successful pilot of pickup kiosks in 4 railway stations across Mumbai, Maharashtra was set up in 2019.


Vinod Shukla wins 1st Mathrubhumi book of the year 2020 award


Noted Hindi poet-novelist and Sahitya Akademi honouree Vinod Kumar Shukla has Bagged the inaugural Mathrubhumi book of the year 2020 award for his translated book "Blue Is Like Blue".

The stories in "Blue Is Like Blue", translated into English by Arvind Krishna Mehrotra and Sara Rai, deal with common people and their daily struggles.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a plaque, and a certificate.


RBI Governor named 'Central Banker of the Year 2020 - Asia Pacific


The governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das has been named the Central Banker of the Year 2020, Asia Pacific by the Banker magazine,a unit of Financial Times (FT).

Apart from this, the announcement of the title of Global Central Banker award 2020 has been given to Jorgovanka Tabakovi, the head of the National Bank of Serbia.

The award is given to central bankers who have "best managed to stimulate growth and stabilize their economy.


72nd Independence Day celebrated by Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka celebrated its 72nd Independence Day on 4 February 2020.

On this day, Sri Lanka became an independent nation after getting independence from Britain.

The national anthem at the ceremony was used to be sung in both languages.

The major change in the celebration ceremony was the National Anthem of Sri Lanka as it was sung only in Sinhala and not in Tamil language.


India hosts Defence dialogue between India and South Korea


India hosted the Ministerial-level Defence dialogue between India and South Korea in New Delhi.

The Ministerial-level Defence dialogue aimed to deepen bilateral defense cooperation between India and South Korea.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of National Defence of South Korea Jeong Kyeong-doo held the meeting.


Albin Kurti appointed as the new PM of Kosovo


Albin Kurti has been appointed as the new and 4th Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo by its parliament.

Albin Kurti replaced Ramush Haradinaj as the PM.

He also served as the vice-president of the University of Prishtina Student Union in Kosova, and the main organizer of non-violent demonstrations

The theme of World Cancer Day from 2019-21 is "I am and I will'.

World Cancer Day is organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

It is observed to create awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
