Odisha CM announces 'Mo Sarkar' initiative for transparrency in governance

 

Odisha Chief MInister Naveen Patnaik announced the "Mo Sarkar" initiative in a bid to ensure transparency in governance of the state.

The initiative will commence from October 2, 2019 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The program, in its first phase, will be implemented for all police stations and district headquarters hospitals and will later take up all other departments by March 5, 2020.

Under the "Mo Sarkar" initiative, the chief minister and other ministers will call common citizens to seek their feedback on the kind of response and service when they visited the government facilities.

Palani Panchamirtham gets GI tag

 

The renowned Palani Panchamirtham the prasadam at Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple in Palani has been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

It is the first GI tag to to prasadam in Tamilnadu.

The prasadam is prepared only to meet the demands of devotees not for commercial purposes.

GI is an indication used on products that have a specific geographical origin and prossess qualities or a reputation that due to that origin.

P.T. Usha appoints in AAAs Athletes commission

 

 

Former Indian athlete and Olmpian P.T. Usha has been appointed as a member of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA).

This the 2nd time she is appointed as member of AAA Athletes Commission.

She wil be one of the six members of the AAA Athletes Commission, which will be headed by 1992 Olympics gold medalist hammer thrower Andrey Abduvaliyev of Uzbekistan.

 

INS Tarkash participates in KONKAN bilateral exercise

 

The 14th Edition of KONKAN series of annual bilateral exercises between Indian Navy and Royal Navy of Britain is currently underway off the South Coast of UK.

INS Tarkash, the Indian Navy's stealth frigate is exercising with the Royal Navy's Daring Class Destroyer, HMS Defender with integral helicopter Wildcat.

 

Wrestler Bajrang Punia nominated for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

 

Asian and Commonwealth Games Champion wrestler Bajrang Punia has been nominated for the country's highest honour the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

His name was finalised by a 12-member selection committee on the opening day of a two-day meeting.

The panel comprises the likes of Bhaichung Bhutia and M C Mary KOm among others.

World No. 1 wrestler in 65 kg, Punia was nominated for the country's top award by the panel headed by Justice (Retd) Mukundakam Sharma.

 

Ravi Shastri re-appointed as head coach of Indian men's team

 

Ravi Shastri has been re-appointed as the head coach of the Indian men's team by the Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

The three-member CAC also comprised former India coach Anshuman Gaekwad and ex women's captain Shantha Rangaswamy.

Shastri has been re-appointed for a 2-year term.

This will be Shastri's fourth stint with the national team, having served briefly as the Cricket Manager (2007 tour of Bangladesh), Team Director (2014-2016) and head coach (2017-2019).

 

India's largest Rural Sanitation Survey launched

 

Jal Shakti Minister Shri Gajendra SIngh Shekhawat has launched the Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2019 (SSG 2019).

The scheme instituted from August 14 to September 30, 2019.

The survey will cover 17,450 villages in 698 districts across India. It includes 87,250 public places namely schools, Anganwadi centers public health centers, haat/ bazaars/ religious places. Around 2,50,000 citizens will be interviewed for the survey.

 

India best England to win Physical Disability World Series 2019

 

India defeated England by 36 runs to win Physical Disability World Series 2019 in the final held at the New Road Stadium in Worcester, England.

The tournament was organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

England, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh were the five countries whiich participate in the tournament.

 

Deepak Punia becomes India's 1st Junior Wrestling World Champion in 18 years

 

Wrestler Deepak Punia became India's first junior World Champion in 18 years.

He claimed a gold medal at the Junior World with a win over Russia's Alik Shebzukhov at Tallinn, Estonia.

The score was tied 2-2 at the end of the 86 kg men's freestyle bout but the Indian was declared champion because he had scored the last point.

Vicky Chahar, on the Other hand, won bronze in the 92 kg category by beating Mongolia's Batmagnai Enkhtuvshin.

 

Bangladeshi novelist Rizia Rahman passes away

 

Renowned Bangladeshi novelist Rizia Rahman passed away at the age of 79.

She had received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1978 and was awared Ekushey Padak in 2019.

She wrote in all genres of creative work including work including short stories, poems, essays and children's fiction.

She was reowned for her nobel. Bong Theke Bangla, Rokter Okshor and Ghar Bhanga Ghar are among some of her well known novels.
